Cremation

Cremation is the process of reducing dead human bodies to basic chemical compounds such as gases and dry bone fragments. This is accomplished through high-temperature burning, vaporization and oxidation. Cremation may serve as a funeral or post-funeral rite that is an alternative to the interment of an intact body in a casket. Cremated remains, which do not constitute a health risk, may be buried or interred in memorial sites or cemeteries, or they may be legally retained by relatives and dispersed in a variety of ways. In many countries, cremation is usually done in a crematorium, but other countries prefer different methods. An example is the practice of open-air cremation in India and in Nepal. When my grandfather died, we had his cremains back in 4 days. It probably depends whether the funeral home does the cremation in house or if they have to send the body to another facility. They funeral home will give you an estimate on time. Answered by Libby - Tue Nov 11 18:17:24 2008 How does the cremation process work?
Q. My father is being cremated tomorrow after passing away on Saturday. He's being transported to a crematorium in a small town about twenty-five miles from where I live. I am just curious about one thing...how will the cremators cremate my father? How does the cremation process work? Thanks. Asked by G o - Wed May 6 18:30:17 2009 - Other - Science - 3 Answers - Comments A. The body is most certainly NOT stripped of it's clothing, the first answer is completely wrong about that. That would be degrading, disrespectful and unnecessary. There is no reason whatsoever for the clothing to be removed, and it is illegal for any of the crematory staff to even open the lid of the cremation container. The funeral director who arranged the cremation makes sure there is no pacemaker in the body, but other than that, nothing at all is removed. NOTHING. If the body has clothes or jewelry that the family has requested stay on the body, it stays. Once the body arrives at the crematory, it is usually in a corrugated cremation container, the personnel at the crematory does not open the lid or touch the body. The body remains in… [cont.] Answered by Reagan - Wed May 6 21:38:22 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "cremation" |

Not illustrated. Excerpt: "The Cremation of Sam Mc Gee" is among the most famous of Robert W. Service's poems. It was published in 1907 in The Songs of a Sourdough (The Spell of the Yukon and Other Verses). It concerns the cremation of a prospector who freezes to death in the Yukon Territory of Canada, as told by the man who cremates him. The night prior to the death of the title character, who hails from the fictional town of "Plumtree, Tennessee", the narrator realizes that "A pal's last need is a thing to heed" and swears to Mc Gee that he will not fail to cremate him. After Mc Gee dies the following day, he winds up hauling the body clear to the "Marge of Lake Lebarge" before he finds a way to perform the promised cremation. Robert Service based the poem on an experience of his roommate, Dr. Sugden, who found a corpse in the cabin of the steamer Olive May. A success upon its initial publication in 1907, an edition of the poem, published in 1986 and illustrated by Ted Harrison, was read widely in Canadian elementary schools. Although the poem was fiction, it was based on people and things that Robert Service actually saw in the Yukon. The "Alice May" was based on the derelict stern-wheeler the "Olive May" that belonged to the "BL Soaring Eagle Cremation Urn
